Another problem arising from this approach is cultural narrowness of Italians if they are too often in the prior backyard, thinking that there is no better than the one that offers their territory and what their mother's kitchen prepares home. This lack of openness can not do the Italians a people further back, in terms of food culture, compared to other countries, where the various cuisines of the world have been in contact with each other by making the taste of the public and open the mentality of the people. The Land of Spices, India boasts of several mouth-watering cuisines which delight the gourmet the world over no end. So much so that when they fail to find Indian food in their respective nations, they, taking the fabled Spice Route, travel to India on the spice trail to enjoy the various tasty and lip-smacking Indian cuisines.

The dosa, idli, vada, bonda, and bajji are typical South Indian snacks. South Indian cuisine is not limited to the above snacks, which are very popular. Andhra, Chettinad, Hyderabadi Nawabi, Mangalorean, and Kerala cuisines each have distinct tastes and methods of cooking. In the modern world, traditional boundaries such as race, culture, language, and religion are slowly fading. Today, it's quite common to see interracial marriages and it's very easy for a Russian Jew to befriend a Japanese Brazilian or a Christian Indian. With more open exchanges, people are also becoming more open to different cultures, customs, traditions, languages, and so on. As a result, more and more people are also interested in ethnic cuisine, which explains why ethnic cuisine is the new mainstream of dining out. Rather than going for the standard American fare like hamburgers, steaks, barbeque chicken wings, salads, and French fries, how about going for poh, miso soup, vegetable curry, gazpacho, paella, tom yum gung or spanakopita? These are some of the more well-known ethnic cuisines and they are found to be excellent for the health. As people become more health-conscious, they are seeking for ways to keep healthy which includes healthy eating. Since ethnic foods are generally healthier than standard American dishes, more people are going for ethnic cuisine. Let's look at some types of ethnic foods.

Before the mid-sixteenth century, the cuisine of Trentino-Alto Adige was extremely simple. The inhabitants ate only to keep body and soul together. The cuisine had far to go and a lot to develop. Many historical events that took place after this lent a distinct shape and flavor to the cuisine of this region. Council of Trent. The Council of Trent was the first event of significance that changed the cuisine of this region for the better in 1550, the year in which it was organized. This council was an Ecumenical Council of the Roman Catholic Church, organized to find ways of countering the rise of Protestant Reformation. One would wonder how such an event, which bore no connection whatsoever to cuisine, influenced the food habits of the inhabitants of this region. The religious officials who participated in this event, were gourmets who appreciated fine cuisine, which was why this event inspired the people of this region to prepare and appreciate fine cuisine. This is one of the best examples of how historical events can shape a region's cuisine.

I believe that from my writing it has become clear that 'Burmese' cuisine does not mean 'Bamar' cuisine and that about the latter nothing conclusive is known. And even if the Bamar have contributed (which I believe they have) with a few recipes to what is called 'Burmese' cuisine they have no part in all the other ethnic foods and dishes that already existed for a very long time (actually for many centuries) when they came into what is nowadays Burma (Myanmar).Since eating is integral part of life it does, subsequently, also take place on the floor with the food being placed on a very low usually round table while the diners are sitting on the floor. Burmese do usually eat with their fingers. Only soup is eaten with short Chinese spoons and in case of noodle soup the noodles are eaten with chopsticks. Bowls with water and lemon pieces to wash hands and fingers as well as small towels are provided on the table.

Life in Burmese households is traditionally taking place on the floor. Chairs and beds are known and exist in households but are mostly used by old people only what goes especially for Burma's vast rural population. I hope you found my article on the Burmese cuisine and related matters interesting and instructive. I am German by birth but am living since 25 years in Burma/Myanmar. I know the country, its people, its culture and its history very well what has made me an authority on Burma. When it is about books on Burma, stick with the expert. After retiring in 2012 I turned writer and am writing books on Burma the country I am privileged to call home. Please do also see my Professional Photos and my profile. I have so far written and published four richly illustrated books on Burma. In my books I am writing extensively and detailed about the country, its people, culture, history and the life in it. The books are available as Kindle eBooks on Amazon.

The use of Indian spices is very less. Yak is a popular meat in this part of India Eastern East Indian cuisine is famous for its sweets such as rasagolla, chumchum, sandesh, rasabali, chhena poda, chhena gaja, and kheeri. Many of the popular sweet dishes initially originated in the Bengal and Orissa regions. Apart from sweets, East India cuisine offers delights of posta (poppy seeds). Traditional Bengali cuisine is not very spicy, not too faint. Generally ingredients such as mustard seeds, cumin seeds, black cumin, green chillies and cumin paste are used in Bengali curries. Mustard paste, curd, nuts, poppy seed paste and cashew paste are preferably cooked in mustard oil. Curries are classified into bata (paste), bhaja (fries), chochchoree (less spicy vapourized curries) and jhol (thin spicy curries). These are eaten with plain boiled rice or spiced rice. Fish is commonly consumed in the eastern India, especially in Bengal.Like South India, rice is the staple grain in Eastern India too. A regular meal consists of many side dishes made of vegetables. The most popular vegetable dish of Bengal is Sukto. Deep fried, shallow fried and mashed vegetables are also very popular. The popular vegetable dishes of Orissa are Dalma and Santula.

However, since there isn't any document such as recipes written for personal use or published in form of a cook book that gives any information on what original or traditional Bamar cuisine is the answer to this question is left to speculation. Please note that what I am writing about the Bamar cuisine is the conclusion I have personally come to after extensive and thorough research. Other peoples' research may lead to different results depending on what sources are available. I have read and heard about a royal palace book with the title 'Sâ-do-Hce'-Cân' that was - so it is said - written on palm leaves in 1866 during king Mindon Min's reign (1853 to 1878) and allegedly contains recipes. I have seriously tried to get a copy of this transcribed and in 1965 by the Hanthawaddy Press published book but did not succeed in finding one. It is said that this book contains 89 recipes but nothing is said about the kind and origins of these recipes. I do however doubt that all (if any) of these recipes are recipes of pure Bamar origin.

The differences in climate and land are obvious: it goes from the Alps, with typical mountain climate, the Po Valley, continental climate, the hills of central, coastal areas, up to the southern regions and islands, with their temperate climate. These differences have an impact not only on the available raw material (for example the fish on the coast, inland to the flesh), but also on processed products. Think of a product used in the classic Italian cuisine such as sausages. In Emilia Romagna there is a humid climate with cold winters perfect for seasoning meats, which allows a minimal addition of salt and then the production of sausages and "soft", in Tuscany the unfavorable environment requires the use of much salt, in the south has forced the addition of even more aggressive seasonings like chili pepper and other spices, to ensure the conservation and cover any unpleasant flavors of the meat.
